What is tamper-evident packaging
01.09.2025
When packaging liquid, paste-like products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, containers with a special self-adhesive seal are used. What is first-opening control? Reliable containers with lids are used to reliably protect the contents during storage and transportation. Such products are manufactured according to strict quality standards and are thoroughly tested before release.

What does “tamper evident” mean on bottles

The presence of first opening control is a guarantee for the buyer that the goods he purchased are protected from penetration, were not damaged before purchase or counterfeited. The manufacturer achieves this through special developments, which involve a special packaging design. As a rule, these are round containers made of plastic or glass with a tight-fitting lid. They can be supplemented with various KPV: from simple but effective seals that are broken upon first opening, to a more complex system with an indicator that records that the integrity has been compromised.

Seals that break or deform when someone tries to open the container are common. They may also leave visual marks. There are other types of fuses with a special strip, a sticker with heat-sensitive ink that changes color when exposed to heat (for example, when someone tries to remove the lid using heat), or even an electronic chip that records the actions.

For what packaging is KPV used

Most often, this type of protection is used for the release of:

  • medicinal products (containers with tablets, capsules, tubes with medicinal ointments);
  • cosmetics (jars, tubes with creams, scrubs, masks);
  • drinks (mineral water, juices).
  • food products for which a guarantee of safety is important.

Jars with PET lids are used for bulk compositions, tablets, paste-like products, sports nutrition, etc. The correct approach to production makes it possible to produce reliable seals.

What functions does the first opening protection perform?

The choice of the type of KPV depends on the specific means, as well as the requirements for the degree of protection. Therefore, the importance of protecting the first opening is fully justified. Let's consider how protectors are used and their main features:

  1. The presence of a seal provides more guarantee that the product is genuine, which reduces the spread of low-quality products, so the buyer can be sure of its authenticity.
  2. KPV is not the last tool for manufacturers, as trust in the company increases when the products are reliably protected. This is especially important for online stores, small businesses, and small companies.
  3. Seal-stickers are an additional guarantee that the contents of the container will reach the customer intact, the risk of damage, substitution during transportation and storage is reduced. Thus, the buyer, having received the order, will be able to check the condition of the packages, make sure that they were not opened before receipt.

In combination with UV-protected containers made of materials whose components do not react with the contents, it is possible to properly store products in warehouses and utility rooms.

Selection criteria

When ordering, it is important to consider the following features:

  • type of product/agent, its composition, viscosity;
  • transportation and storage conditions;
  • maximum budget;
  • general requirements, standards.

Simple seals can be quite effective for some types of products, but for others, a more complex CPV will be needed. The choice of a specific type of protection depends on specific features, and therefore it is important to take into account all the requirements that are imposed on a specific product. First opening control is not just a packaging detail, but a necessary element indicating the quality of the product.
